Davis: Sign A.B. 2330

IT'S NO SECRET that Gov. Gray Davis has been a major disappointment to the liberal Democrats who helped elect him. But if he refuses to sign California assemblymember Carole Migden's tenant protection bill, he'll be sending a clear message that he's happy to sell out the interests of millions of tenants to help landlords.

A.B. 2330 is a no-brainer. It outlaws expensive tenant-initiation fees and gives renters the opportunity to make minor repairs before they move out so landlords don't withhold their security deposits.

The only reason Davis would veto this – and we're hoping he won't – is if he's completely beholden to real estate interests. Bay Area renters should call and write to Davis, reminding him that we're watching and demanding he sign A.B. 2330. Send letters to Gov. Gray Davis, State Capitol Building, Sacramento, CA 95814, call (916) 445-2841, fax (916) 445-4633, or e-mail governor@governor.ca.gov.
